Furniture Connection Has a New Home in Calgary
The decision to move warehouse in Calgary was more of a strategic one.
The new location offered to me by our Landlord at the Portland Place has a street view and a Crossroads Market exposure, more than 4,000 sq ft of a show room and a very appealing sublease option of 3,000 sq.ft of office/ small storage space.
Our new home is at #1050 2600 Portland St. SE
The showroom provides the capability to better showcase our staging furniture, staging styles and also an opportunity to sell some of the unique pieces that we purchase from our suppliers and pieces that we are willing to part with in order to keep our inventory current and fresh.
This showroom opportunity was in line with my growth strategy for this location and as such I took it.
While the move was long and complex (we spent over 10 years at our old location), it gave me some extra time to re-think and improve on the storage flow and efficiency. The move was also performed during the moderately busy season that required additional effort from our existing team and additional manpower.
I would like to recognize our Operations Manager Kayla Beddall who kept the smooth operations going during the inconvenience of the move and transition into a new space.
We are still settling into our new warehouse, as well as trying to set up the show room, so please give me sometime before I am confident to more share pictures.
As I write this note, our signage contractor Canadian Sign Co. is busy installing new “Furniture Connection” sign at our new spot, so we will be VERY VISIBLE in the next week or so. Part of our new signage is the Furniture Connection 3D logo with the little bird, and as installers were putting this bird up, a heavenly starling flew in to warm up and check on the new place. She decided to stay overnight and lingered in the rafters of the show room. Overnight she had a very good fly-over in the new place, triggering alarm a couple of times through the night, giving us her blessing. Next day we kept our front doors open to let the bird free return to the skies, and
